Sandals

Um, the Fargo Forum ran an article today on men's sandals. Quite newsworthy. A young gentleman was called a "sandal afficionado." He exp0unded on the benefits of sandals for men. It was really quite something.

A SANDAL AFICIoNADO. I call that a 27 year old slacker who doesn't want to grow up. Fine, he grew up on the lake. I don't care. Real men bite the bullet and wear real shoes like the rest of us. And since I'm on the topic, women need to get a clue, too. Sandals are NOT appropriate for every occasion. Casual office, summer workday? Fine. Afternoon casual wedding? Fine. HIgh-heeled strappy sandals with a cocktail dress? All fine. Flip flops to a job interview? Not fine. Don't care if they are the most beautiful flip flops ever made. Don't care if you are 22 years old. Flip flops are not appropriate for a job interview. In fact, I would argue that flip flops are not appropriate work attire, period. Unless of course you're a lifeguard. I will freely admit that I tend to be on the conservative side of what I think is appropriate work attire. I am in the minority of people who think that cleavage is better left to the club scene rather than the office. But is it really so wrong for there to be appropriate dress for certain occasions? Isn't it okay to have some limits that define propriety? Conservatively attired people of the world, unite!

PS - did you see how I spelled afficionado two different ways? Apparently, they are both correct!!!
